Touch Assignment

"Touch, by clarifying and adding to the shorthand of eyes, teaches us that we live in a three dimensional world" (94) A Natural History of the Senses - Diane Ackerman

The interpretation of this quote represents the idea that we as people rely too much on technology in today's world. We are constantly looking at screens, visuals, and videos, yet we forget that seeing things in person with the addition of touch is the best form of experiencing things in our world.

"Pain has plagued us throughout the history of our species. We spend our lives trying to avoid it, and, from one point of view what we call "happiness" may just be the absence of pain" (106) A Natural History of the Senses - Diane Ackerman

The interpretation of this quote depicts that our reality can be a long sequence of suffering. And as a result we as people now see the absence of adversity as happiness, when in reality happiness is subjective to each individual. Another perspective of this quote can look at it in the sense that we have cultivated a world so cruel, that we are used to pain and suffering, which results in happiness and peace of mind is the times when that same cultivation is absent.
